About the Pub

For many years a Bass pub until the early 1990s, then owned by Hardys & Hansons, this fairly basic lager-drinkers local is now (since 2002) a privately-owned free-house comprising a single U-shaped room at the front, with one corner dominated by a pool table. A room to the rear is occupied (leased?) by the Oasis Cafe, a separately run business providing simple breakfasts and lunches. While having its own entrance off William Street (under a Kimberley Ales lantern), the Oasis Cafe is directly accessible from the pub when the latter is open. Real ale was last available in the 1990s and there are no plans to reintroduce it; "no demand"! Despite the Crescent Hotel designation on the end of the building, accommodation has not been available for many years.

Historic Interest

Believed to have been the Tooth brothers' Crescent Brewery tap in the mid-1800s. This short-lived brewery was built to satisfy a perceived demand for Burton ale by thirsty miners during the Australian gold rush.
